Hat Sizing Guide

Fit Guide

Find your hat size

A well-fitted hat sits level, feels snug without pinching, and won't lift in a gust of wind. It takes about a minute to get right.

Measure your head

1

Wrap the tape

Use a soft tape measure or a length of string. Wrap it around your head where the hat will actually sit — across the middle of your forehead and about 1/8" above your ears.

2

Keep it snug

Firm but comfortable, not tight. If you're using string, mark where it overlaps and measure it flat against a ruler.

3

Read the chart

Match your measurement to the table below. Round to the nearest 1/8 inch.

Between two sizes? Always go up. A slightly loose hat can be snugged with sizing tape behind the sweatband. A hat that's too small can't be fixed — and we'd rather exchange it than have you settle.

Two things worth knowing

Most heads aren't round

Most people have a slightly oval head, and western hats are blocked to match. If a hat fits front-to-back but pinches at the sides, the shape is off rather than the size — tell us and we'll help you find a style blocked differently.

Felt gives, straw doesn't

Fur felt relaxes a little with wear and can be professionally stretched about a quarter size. Straw and palm leaf hold their shape and won't give, so measure carefully before ordering straw.

Not sure? Ask before you order.

Send us your measurement and the hat you're considering, and we'll tell you which size to take. If it still isn't right when it arrives, we'll exchange it.
